What causes me the greatest grief is the callous disregard for the health, well-being, and lives of millions of innocent fellow human beings demonstrated by the words and actions (or inaction) of Trump, Musk, and their Republican enablers, while at the same time enriching themselves even further. No one whose motto is "What's in it for me?" should ever be in charge of anything. And people who profess to be Christian voted for them and follow them and don't seem bothered by their profoundly unChristian words and actions. The world is upside-down and I am unable to turn it right-side up. My contribution to good at the moment seems to be to act as kind, compassionate, and generous as possible toward the people around me.

Thank you for this. I often remind people in sermons that the Kingdom of God—that favorite theme and symbol of Jesus—is characterized by values “upside-down” from the values we see in dominant society. At times, this incongruity is especially glaring. I too feel we’re in such a time. Cutting off cancer research? Cutting off AIDS medications in Africa? Forcing hard-working families off of food assistance? All while extending further tax breaks for billionaires? … Cruelty seems to be the point.

Yes, cruelty does seem to be the point, which is ironic since so many of them (Trump and Musk excluded) seem to make such a big deal out of their Christianity. They appear to be uniquely unfamiliar with what Jesus said.
